On September 22, 1969, Willie Mays hit career home run No. 600, becoming only the second player in MLB history to reach the milestone.

Mays entered 1969 with 587 homers and had been stuck on 599 for a week before taking Padres pitcher Mike Corkins deep in San Diego. The two-run homer helped San Francisco win 4-2.

In 1990, Illinois running back Howard Griffith scored an NCAA-record eight rushing touchdowns and 48 points in a 56-21 victory over Southern Illinois.
