The Daily 5 – [09/25/26]

1 – [40/40]: PCA JOINS AN EXCLUSIVE CLUB.

Pete Crow-Armstrong stole second in the first inning of the Chicago Cubs’ 2–1 victory over Miami, giving him 40 stolen bases to go with 45 home runs. PCA became only the seventh player in MLB history with 40 homers and 40 steals in the same season—and the first Cub ever to do it. Chicago also clinched a postseason berth with the victory.

2. [60]: satchel paige becomes oldest to pitch a game.

On September 25, 1965, Paige became the oldest player in MLB history, pitching three scoreless innings for Kansas City against Boston and surrendering just one hit. Now, no one knows exactly how old he was at the time. He might have been 59 and a few months. But does it matter? SIXTY. The man pitched a game at SIXTY.

3 – [100 x 3]: white sox flip the script on the century mark.

The White Sox beat Kansas City 9-1 and clinched their first postseason berth since 2021. The remarkable part of this: Chicago did it immediately after enduring three consecutive 100-loss seasons. They’re only one game behind Cleveland in the AL Central and own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

4 – [194 + 194]: the falcons’ ridiculous symmetry.

In Atlanta’s 35-14 demolition of Green Bay, Bijan Robinson rushed for 194 yards — while Drake London had 194 receiving yards. Atlanta outrushed Green Bay 242-17. Ooof.

5 – [164]: the operation that changed baseball.

On this date in 1974, Dr. Frank Jobe performed the pioneering UCL reconstruction on Tommy John. John subsequently won another 164 major-league games. The operation became so closely associated with him that we don’t call it UCL reconstruction in everyday baseball conversation — we call it Tommy John surgery. I guess it has a better ring to it that Frank Jobe surgery?

THE SxN PLAYS OF THE DAY

[play] – navy -6 over uab [1u]

The sharp bettors see this game being won by more than a TD. We have ourselves some value.

[play] – rays/phillies over 6.5 [0.5u]

Sanchez is good, but he is not immune to giving up runs. I could see a tight 4-3 type ballgame…and you’re cashing if that is the case.

[LEAN] – cal +1.5 over clemson

The disagreement amongst experts screams one thing — close game. I want to play this number based on how bad Clemson has looked to my eye, but I can’t find a terrible amount of value in this. It might be a game time decision for me — and I don’t blame you if you walk on this.
